Being made redundant while on maternity leave
I’m being made redundant 5 months into my maternity leave (UK), weirdly I can’t help but feel thankful - at least I get more time with my little potato.
But being a new mum is hella lonely, as any new mums reading this know and the worst part is losing even more connection. I’ve been there for almost 7 years!
They say there’s meant to be redundancy protection when you’re on MAT leave but it’s not really the case - the only protection you have is they have to give you priority if there’s suitable alternative roles to choose but the roles are often inferior.
It sucks that companies can do this to people on maternity ‘cause you’re out of the loop, can’t say goodbye to lots of people, you’re looking after a new baby and aren’t really in a position to look for a new job in the same way others are.
Has this happened to anyone else while on MAT, paternity or adoption leave?
