Re-Writing Script?

So, to clarify my title: How do you feel about people re-writing the script to an episode with minor to major changes but most of the story staying pretty consistent with a script?

For an instance, they are re-writing a series but adding their oc or a different canon character to have been there the whole time, so the story is basically the show with the insert?
