This weekend I made a loop hike of TR and Tabletop mountains, two more 100 Highest Peaks.

Along the way, got a beautiful look at the Jackson Slide on Mount Colden from Marcy Dam. (Pic #1)

I made great time on the Van Ho trail, and quickly reached the area where the TR herd path is supposed to leave. After a minute of searching, I was able to locate it, and I was on my way!

DISCLAIMER: Many sources online say there’s a cairn marking the TR herd path, but this is NOT the case anymore. Actually, there’s not much of a herd path in general. There’s patches where it’s clear as day, but it is not navigable on its own. (Without prior knowledge of terrain, or maps/compass or gps). This peak is a BUSHWHACK, especially if you’re trying to get views out of it like I did.

After reaching the summit clearing of TR, i was surprised by this beautiful summit sign someone made, with the rank and elevation info on it. (Pic #2) I started poking around looking for a view, and I managed to find a trio of spots, where I could get partial views of Marcy, Colden, and the MacIntyre Range. (Pics 3-5).

After leaving the summit, I started making my way down, hoping to intersect the Van Ho trail at Indian Falls. I was a bit off in a westerly direction, and I popped out onto the Indian Falls trail 0.25 miles below the falls. I made my way up the hill, and took a quick break, enjoying the view across to TR from the falls. (Pic #6)

From there, I continued to the Tabletop turnoff. From there it was a fairly uneventful summit approach, though there was quite a bit of mud.

Tabletop’s summit, marked by a sign far less elegant than TR’s, had good views of the Upper Great Range, Colden, and the Macs. I especially liked the view of Haystack, and Marcy looked very tempting from this point. (Pics #7-10)

From Tabletop, I retraced my steps back to the Loj. Another great day hiking in the High Peaks!

Tabletop: #19 on ADK 46 + 100 Highest
