Living in a Moldy Private apartment in NY for years

Hi. I will try and keep this short.

Location: Queens, NY.

I've been living in a black moldy basement apartment for about 7 years. There is no lease agreement. I've gone through 3 landlords who are not the actual landlord. The real owner of the house rents the upstairs and I pay rent to the upstairs tenant. Two LLs have come and gone and this third one has been giving me issues regarding the mold. I have photos and videos of mold and literally water in the walls.

Instead of addressing the issue permanently, he's decided that cut and replace drywall was the solution. I cannot sleep in the apartment. My skin crawls constantly. I have a dehumidifier and an air filtration machine running 24/7 and it still doesn't help, of course. I have a pet cat living with me as well and he's been dry coughing/heaving which I suspect may be from Asthma but obviously it's been exacerbated by the mold.

I've been threatened with locks being changed if I don't pay the rent and my stuff being thrown out. I have text histories and photos for evidence. I want to seek damages: mental, emotional, financial.

What are my options? Who do I hire? Who do I call?
