Need advice for my kid

My (M35) wife (F33) come from very conservative homes. We are thankfully out of that life but are still learning. We are open minded and accepting.

Or 7 year old son likes to wear "girls" clothes. Our concern is bullying. He's been homeschooling up until this year, and he is going into public school in 2nd grade. We don't want to forbid him from wearing what he wants, but we also want him to be prepared for the possibility of bad actors.

We haven't called attention to it at all (like we haven't played them "girl" clothes.)

Should we preempt a conversation or "wait and see" if it actually becomes an issue at school?
