Dear young people, dating at 40 is liberating
40M, divorced after 10 years of marriage. Just wanted to share what dating again feels like at this age. Everywhere I go in the city, we are usually the oldest people on a date. And it's surprisingly liberating. No real pressure, because we both know it is not going to go anywhere. Either the conversations are totally superficial, or the discussion turns to buying homes, and ageing parents. Sometimes sex if there is a vibe. Otherwise, I just had a great evening.
We see the young couples, in the malls, the restaurants. And online as well, as on reddit. So hopeful, dealing with heartbreak, butterflies, and all. On the wrong side of 40, this doesn't happen. Because there are no expectations. No chance of love.
Because deep down, everyone is preparing to die alone. I promise you this is not depressing.
So to all you young folks dealing with the dating grind I say. Don't worry. Don't marry. Wait it out, and it will get better.
