After seeing more of Empire State for Battlefield 6’s second beta weekend, I can’t help but be excited and slightly worried at the same time.

The map itself looks like an absolute blast — urban Brooklyn setting, lots of vertical play between rooftops and streets, and those stairwell choke points that are going to be meat grinders in modes like Rush. It’s pure infantry combat, which feels like more of the.... same? idk.

The issue is… spotting.

In Weekend 1, the spotting system felt way too heavy-handed. You’d peek for a couple of seconds and boom — giant red diamond over your head visible to every enemy within range. That means the second you try to flank or take a creative route, you’re basically broadcasting your position to the whole server. On large maps, you can sometimes get away with it by using range or terrain. But on something as tight and multi-layered as Empire State? You’re not going to last long.

Flanking, rooftop pushes, even quick street crossings — they all rely on at least a bit of surprise. Right now, that’s almost impossible when the spotting system lights you up instantly and holds it long enough for three people to pre-aim the exact corner you’re about to come round. It turns what could be clever positioning into a constant game of “who can pre-fire faster.”

And that’s my worry: on a smaller, more chaotic map, the spotting system could kill the very gameplay moments that make Battlefield fun — those outplays or sneaky captures.

If DICE could tone it down — maybe shorter marker durations, or only on certain actions — it would go a long way to making Empire State feel more like a chess match and less like a game of laser tag.

**What do you think needs to be done about spotting?**

Empire State looks incredible… but spotting could ruin it
