**1 year ago we launched on PH, LinkedIn, HN and completely flopped, here’s why and how we’re using it as fuel.**

The reason we flopped became our core product.

When my co-founder and I created our first product, "Gong for Engineers," we envisioned a platform connecting development tools and pinpointing improvement opportunities. CTOs loved our mockups.

But, every sales call ended the same way: "How can you prove your tool actually helps engineers?" We had no answer, and it cost us EVERY deal.

After the 50th rejection, the realization hit us: this wasn't just a sales objection, it was a massive unsolved problem. The entire industry relied on gut feeling instead of objective data.

So we decided to quantify engineering work.

This insight led us to build Weave's output model - the first tool capable of measuring engineering productivity improvements. Now we're working with hundreds of engineering teams to understand how they can improve and how to optimize their AI usage.

Our biggest obstacle became our core product. In the dark place of the idea maze we did our best to listen for what people really wanted.
