Upgrading Ancient GPU - A770/B580 Worth It In 2025?
My AMD RX 570 4GB, which I bought used back in 2018, is probably on its last legs. I'm upgrading some other parts like my CPU and SSD, so it feels like the right time to replace the GPU too.
My primary OS is Debian/Ubuntu Linux.
I'm not really into new AAA games, so I'm not worried about cutting-edge performance at 1440p. I mostly play games that are a few years old.
However, I do want to get into LLMs and other GPU-based computing, so I'm looking for a card with more than the standard 8GB of VRAM.
I'm trying to keep the GPU under $500.
I've been looking at the 16GB 5060 Ti / 9060 XT options at that price point, but the Intel Arc A770 and B580 have really caught my attention. I'm seeing them used for around $250, which is almost half the price of used last-gen cards from NVIDIA and AMD.
So, my question is: Are the A770 or B580 still good options for that price? I know new Intel GPUs are rumored to be coming out, but given the state of my current card, I kind of need to go with something now.
Thanks in advance!
