Looking for some career switching advice (28M)?

Advice

As the title says, I’m looking for a bit of career guidance. I’m 28yrs old and I’m feeling a little pigeon-holed in my career and don’t feel as though I have many avenues I can take given how competitive the job market is right now. I’m in the uk and got a Bsc Hons in microbiology. I got hired at the university I done my degree in, doing some research for a professor there. I worked there on different lab projects for just under 3yrs. I then worked in sales for a big pharma company for just under a year, left as I was offered a PhD position. After the first year I realised the environment really wasn’t for me and so decided to write it up and submit it as a masters degree. I’ve since worked as a lab tech at a different university for just about a year and a half. I enjoy my job for now but I am feeling more and more limited. There is little to no progression and I feel as though lab skills aren’t as transferable in most jobs. Plus university funding cycles can be fickle. I think I’m going to need to retrain but I just don’t really know how or what. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or had been in a similar situation before? Any help is much appreciated.
