Why should I fill in a password and cannot finger ?

Using macOS 25.4 Sequoia on my MBP I unlock it by fingering the touch ID, but occasionally (even within 24 hours) I have to fill in the password.
Can this be disabled so that the password is optional as Touch ID is even more secure ?
