Need advice/assistance with my abzan deck.

Been playing magic on and off for the last 20 years but never really delved much into commander/edh. Got a few precons here and there but my current game group are all big big commander fans. (To the point one of them is running a full on bracket 5 dragon tribal deck)
I've always been a Golgari main but dragonstorm swayed me to add some white into my BG.
Originally this was a life gain, +1/+1 counter with willowdusk essence seer as commander (not the precon), I added insidious roots because I love the theme of the card and I enjoy graveyard shenanigans.
However, getting the deck into a place of consistency hasn't been easy because I'm constantly torn between function and flavour.
Not looking for a total overhaul, just some suggestions on what should be replaced, whether specific cards or mechanics in general.
