Just wanted to get more involved in the model kit/gundam/gunpla community. Happy to be a member now!

I am an avid action figure collector and recently branched out into model kits in the past 2 years or so. Not fanatical, but I tend to try out 2-3 kits a year and it usually stems from being IN LOVE with the design and character elements (color, style, scale etc.)

A few of my kits above: Flame Toys Arcee, Kotobukiya Optimus Prime (Anime Girl), Aoshima Mechagodzilla.

Im really having a great time. A few lessons learned that I wanted to share and also get feedback to make sure Im on the right track!

* ALWAYS pre-prime and pre-paint before cut and assembly.
   * I use Tamiya Spray Primer for 1-3 coats depending on the color plastic
   * For Paint I am specific to the Testors Enamel Paints and Brush Coating. I have not yet branched out into the Airbrush realm (kind of intimidating!)
* Use the proper snips and make sure to trim any excess flashing
   * I want to get a sanding tool to sand down the excess once clipped - Any recommendations for a micro sanding tool?
* SILICONE SHOCK OIL, SILICONE SHOCK OIL, SILICONE SHOCK OIL!!!
   * Every single joint where a peg engages a thru-hole, or a ball and socket joint needs a generous glob of Silicone Shock Oil. These kits are FRAGILE and I have had a couple parts break on all the above kits because of this. 30Wt is a great viscocity
* Watch overspray on joints/pegs/ball/socket etc.
   * I have a habit of not pre-cleaning my overspray on interference fit joints that incur motion, and as much as you think a little layer of primer wont make a huge difference, it could be the factor between you snapping your ABS plastic and not.
* Color mixing - Testors & most other brands will not always have the specific color tones you want to use, so dont be afraid to experiment! Many colors in my transformer anime kit were customized to get the tone right!

Again, really excited to keep this hobby going and even dial up my kit count per year. This is a really fun hobby that has given me more excitement (AND STRESS!) as an action figure enthusiast.
