Keeping secrets from my husband
My Husband and I have been married for about 4 months. I am a college student who was originally planning to graduate this December, having one semester left of class after we got married. However, last semester, I was working my part-time job while also trying to keep up with my classes and plan our wedding. I ended up getting really burnt out and wasn’t doing any of the work for my classes. I knew I would probably fail the classes, so I went ahead and withdrew from them while I still could. I was super embarrassed about not being able to keep up with all the work, so to this day I have not told a single soul that I withdrew from class that semester. Now I am in a really tough situation, because I have an extra semester worth of class left to complete.
My husband is still under the impression that I am graduating in a few months when this semester is over. He really wants to try to start a business, and has been planning to take some time off his job to do that next spring once I’m able to find a full-time job and support us for a while. But he doesn’t know that I will still have to be in school until at least next May, so I probably won’t be able to get a full-time job until at least a year from now.
I have been looking into online school options that are self-paced so that maybe I would be able to finish my degree earlier than next May. But I don’t know how to bring this up to him. My fall semester at school starts in a few weeks so I am running out of time to tell him if I won’t be attending there anymore.
I guess I am just looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation? I am so embarrassed about it still and I feel so guilty for not telling him sooner and letting him make plans around me graduating in December. The longer this has gone on, the harder it seems to tell him because I’m afraid he will be really upset with me for how much time I’ve been keeping this from him. How do I bring this up?? What do I say?? What should I do?? Any advice is appreciated.
