Should I replace my Lenovo Loq 170W charger for my custom Lenovo laptop with i7-13650HX and RTX 4050?

Tech Support

Hi all,

I have a custom Lenovo laptop with the following specs:

Intel Core i7-13650HX CPU NVIDIA RTX 4050 GPU 32GB RAM 1440p, 165Hz display 1TB TLC SSD Currently, I’m using the Lenovo Loq 170W charger that came with the laptop. I’m considering upgrading to a higher wattage charger (like 230W or 300W) or a newer model. My questions are:

Would a higher wattage charger significantly improve charging speed or overall laptop performance, especially under heavy workloads or gaming? Is there any risk in using a charger with a wattage higher than what the laptop originally came with? Could it cause overheating, battery wear, or other hardware issues? I want to make sure any upgrade is both safe and beneficial. Appreciate any advice, technical insights, or personal experience you can share! Thanks in advance!
