How do economic factors influence the types of tool modifications people prioritize?

It's captivating to think about how economic conditions shape the modifications people choose for thier tools. When money's tight, I imagine the focus shifts to extending the lifespan of existing tools and improving their functionality for a wider range of tasks. Think DIY repairs, sharpening blades, or adding homemade jigs for increased precision or versatility.

on the other hand, during periods of economic prosperity, people might prioritize modifications that boost efficiency or add convenience, even if they're more expensive. Upgrading to a faster motor for a power tool, adding laser guides, or investing in specialized attachments become more appealing when the cost isn't as much of a barrier.

Do you think there's a point where economic constraints stifle innovation in tool modification, or does necessity always drive ingenuity, nonetheless of the economic climate?
