Selling Business: Tell Employees or No?

Straightforward enough; I’m selling my retail business and I see value in telling the staff (it’s polite, they’ll probably figure it out anyway, we can transition most effectively for a buyer) and in not telling them (no immediate turnover before the sale). That said, I don’t know everything and I was hoping for alternative perspectives; what was your experience? What worked? What were the problems?
