Got kicked off a flight for switching seats with another passenger who AGREED to it – stranded at the airport - Hawaiian Airlines
I travel often for work and pride myself on staying calm and professional in any customer service situation… but this one blew my mind.
Here’s what happened: • I boarded my flight and ended up not sitting next to girlfriend on the plane. She kindly asked an older gentlemen if he was able to switch seats so we could sit together. • We switched seats with mutual consent. He was originally on an aisle seat and ended up with a window seat which he appreciated. • A gate/boarding agent came on and told me that seat-switching was “against policy.” When I asked politely for clarification or a written policy, I got no clear answer. • The agent’s tone turned rude and dismissive very quickly. I stayed calm, but the interaction escalated on their end. I informed boarding agent who was on the plane that we would very happily switch back to our normal seats • Without any real explanation, we were removed from the flight • I was not rebooked, not offered any assistance, and was left stranded at the airport.
The kicker? I have multiple videos of the entire interaction — showing me being respectful, the agent’s unprofessional and discriminatory attitude, and the complete lack of resolution from the airline.
I’ve reached out to CNN because this needs to be seen. This wasn’t about safety. This was about an employee abusing their authority and treating a paying customer with zero dignity because she didn’t like us from the moment we interacted with her outside the plane. As a boarding agent, she came onto the plane with another employee for no given reason.
Has anyone else been kicked off a plane for something like this? And if so, did you get justice
