Self employed FAMLI leave

Hi all! I’ve been dealing with some medical issues and it has made have to significantly reduce my work hours. I am self employed and am wondering if anyone has experience with taking FAMLI leave. Is it difficult to do? Do you have to stop working altogether? My income is also not consistent, so it’s hard to calculate what my premiums would be, and I’ve never paid into it. I plan on calling them with questions but wanted to hear others’ experiences.
