Weird Kitty Pryde and Colossus relationship

I'm only just past Claremont's Days of Future Past, when it was shown that they were married in the future i thought it was a little weird but didn't pay it much attention, but the issue after days of future past end it's christmas and kitty kisses colossus on the cheek and he starts blushing and nightcrawler makes a remark. Was this normal for comics back in the day? Kitty is only 13 1/2 and i assume colossus is well past his 20s. Also thought it was weird that jeans dad started blushing when she was nude but that's neither here nor there.
