Is it okay to just adopt a single kitten?

New to Cats/Just Adopted

I got a male kitten from a shelter last weekend. Idecided to look up cat subreddits today and came across the term of single kitten syndrome.

Is it actually bad for him to not have a second kitten as a friend? I'm not sure I could afford to have two cats at this moment, where as a single cat fits my budget perfectly.

Before I was feeling completely fine with my decision of getting a cat, but now since reading about single kitten syndrome, I'm starting to think twice about my decision
