Potted trees or hedges recommendation

I have a small backyard located in Southern California and the previous owners put in artificial turf throughout. We wanted to add in some small trees to help block out road noise and for decoration/enjoyment. Given the pains of dealing with the HOA and cost, we would rather not rip out all the turf. What are some taller trees or hedges that could remain planted that would help with this? Our fence line is just under 6’. We have looked at dwarf apple/citrus but unsure if they will get much over that height and if they remain in a pot. We could likely have 36” or larger pots for this. I am no gardening expert (but if you want to talk aquaculture corals, I can help!) and this may not even be possible but wanted to ask the experts and see. Thanks!
