Finally got DJS scheduled for December 2!

First, thanks to the users who gave me feedback on my last post when I was freaking out.

I was able to get a follow up appointment with my surgeon back in July and he gave the go ahead to get surgery scheduled.

The prior authorization request was submitted to my insurance this weekend and approved yesterday, so today I was able to actually schedule my surgery date. I’ll be having a 3-piece segmental LeFort I and lower jaw surgery as well (not sure if my surgeon has decided on a BSSO or inverted-L osteotomy yet) to correct asymmetry and crossbite.

Though the surgery is later than what I expected when I began this process, I’m just grateful that I’ll be having it before the end of the year, since I’ve been paying for higher premium/lower out-of-pocket max insurance in anticipation of surgery this year.

I’ve read so many horror stories on here about insurance being difficult or prior authorization requests taking forever to receive an answer, so I also just wanted to let people know that it can go quickly. I received approval for this one within two days, and the PA request I submitted with a different surgeon last year (which I wanted before committing to orthodontic treatment) was approved the same day it was received. Additionally, in case anyone is curious or shopping around for insurance, my surgeon’s insurance coordinator told me that Aetna (my insurance) is one of the easiest insurances they work with in getting orthognathic surgeries approved.
