I didn’t have my period for over a year and now it’s back

About a year and a half ago my period stopped. At the time I was going through a major mental health crisis. In the span of a year I tried to kill myself 8 times and I was in a psych hospital 9 times. I asked my mom why my period had stopped and we kind of speculated that it was just because of the stress, but I don’t think that was the case.

At the time and until recently I had honestly been eating really unhealthy stuff and gained about 20 pounds in the last year. It was all I had access to as I didn’t have a job and I’m living with my parents, and they don’t cook 90% of the time. Typically they Uber food, and because that’s what they eat, that’s also what I eat.

This month I got a job in retail and I also convinced my mom to start a subscription to blue apron so that instead of eating out every night, I would cook dinner for all of us.

I went from being at home all the time eating junk food, to getting a job and eating home cooked meals.

I guess what my question is—is that can a small amount of weight loss trigger my period to start, or is it because I’m not stressed out anymore? My job is pretty physical but I’ve only been there for about a month, but my diet has changed drastically so I think that also played a role as well.
