What kind of car should I save up for?

I've been saving up for a car for over 2 years now. I thought of getting a used Volkswagen new beetle of some models, but after watching a couple of TikTok videos from this mechanic shop, I'm now considering getting a Toyota as a more reliable option. I don't want to go to a dealership for advice because I'm worried that they might try to upsale me, which is why I'm asking here. I'm looking for something reliable, can transport a small kayak with a rack, preferably low gas usage if possible, simple tech and interior (nothing real fancy like a rear view camera or leather seats), and lightly used if possible. I'm still a learner driver, so I'm not planning on buying anything right away, especially with my current balance. Any recommendations for a future car?
