Why is there a limit to cosmetics

I don’t understand what the cosmetics limit accomplishes. Before I started building 125 seemed pretty reasonable and 300 inventory space was fine. But now that I’ve gotten into building I realize that I never have enough material, and will not have enough space to build all the things I want to. I just don’t get why this is capped. At least if there was ways to upgrade it way past the limit with sheckles or anything.
