How to move to the next step in building stronger male-male relationships?

Men’s Input Only

As a straight man, I'm trying to build up a solid group of male friendships. I've been meeting different people through hobbies and sports, but it's been hard to make anything out of these encounters.

  1. Normally it's natural for women to exchange numbers and meet up for coffee, yoga, etc. I'm finding it hard to do the same for the male acquaintances I meet. I usually meet people doing some sports/hobby on a weekly basis, we chat, then go home, meet again next week. It feels awkward and hard to go anything beyond that and keep the conversation going outside the weekly activity. How do you expand the friendship beyond the weekly hobby/sports gathering? e.g. get to know them better, their family, etc

  2. I find it hard to keep the conversation going with other men when talking to them. A lot of women usually like to talk and share their thoughts, feelings, etc so it's easy to to keep a conversation going. For a lot of men, it's hard to have a back and forth and keep the convo going as they dont seem as engaged. I'm not sure if they are just uninterested in talking to me or how to get people to open up. I'm not sure how to build that connection. Related to this question is how to be more interesting to other men so they are interested in talking.
