Please help re images

Hi all,

I've just finished and submitted my kdp book. I did the print first and I have been working on the Kindle. I'm having some trouble and it's in regarding images.

They are all line drawn cartoon like B&W. ChatGPT drew them (it was a nightmare getting it right) exactly as per my specs. I then used an upscale app to make sure the DPI were good enough for print.

ChatGPT told me exactly how to export the PDF so I wouldn't lose any image resolution. Unfortunately, it failed to mention that I need to check off a box buried in Word for saving it as a DOCX that says don't compress the images. So my high quality PDF export was rendered moot because I saved the file in Word first.

I found this out today, after the book went live, after I had placed an order at regular price via prime (cheaper for inspection than ordering author copies with the shipping). So I'm waiting a bit panicked that I will have to redo these images. I know I should just patiently wait, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this, given my workflow.

But there's second image issue. I created the Kindle version. I converted it to ePub and put in on my Kindle. It mostly rendered ok though the Kindle messed something up with the TOC and it wasn't respecting my formatting (I use both left align and justified). No big deal. The images (some of which were still the compressed ones; others I had changed to hi res) all looked fine.

So next step, I used the Kindle previewer. Text and TOC looked great. But I wanted to test it on my Kindle. The previewer only allows mobi exports and I know that's been deprecated. In any case I put it on my Kindle and the images all look fuzzy. I have no idea if this is because of compression via word (which makes no sense because the epub images look fine) or it's just the mobi format. ChatGPT says the only way to see a 100% accurate representation is to publish it and buy a copy/ KPB allowed me to download an HTML ZIP file, but I don't know what purpose that serves.

In any case, using ChatGPT for help has been a very positive experience for formatting, style, etc. But it has completely botched everything as far as image advice goes. But alas, I can't draw, and the images it produced do look good on my computer, after it redrew each one 6-12 times per my specs.

Anyone know about images and publishing?
