Is it legit if a company installs and "keeps" the system for 6 years for the tax rebates to offer me a much lower upfront quote?

Solar Quote

I'm in the market to get solar and beat the deadline on the tax rebates. I was offered a payment method that I had not heard of from anyone else nor can I find much online from others about.

This was an initial "Project Solar" consultation, with a basic design. We went over costs, and one option offered had a significant price cut. It was explained that if I elected to give the company permission to take the solar credits themselves, they could essentially qualify for more of a tax break as a company than I could as an individual, which then reduces the cost I would be out of pocket even more. The catch was explained as, they would "own" the system for 6 years, with no additional money coming out of my pocket, and then would transfer the system back to me after 6 years. It was explained that this was how they could claim my credits. The whole thing is supposedly ironed out in the contract (of which I'm waiting to review).

Is this a legit path to solar ownership, or the making of a shady deal?
