Hello everyone, I’m a rising junior Mechanical Engineering student trying to get serious about a Summer 2026 internship. I’m most interested in aerospace, defense, and automotive, but I’m open to other opportunities.

I’d like help refining my resume for an internship program targeting rising juniors. The company I’m applying to offers both a Manufacturing & Engineering Associate role and an R&D Engineer role. The R&D position interests me more, but it lists preferred degrees in Chemical or Food Process Engineering, or related. Should I still apply as a Mech E? Below are the minimum qualifications for both:

R&D: Pursuing B.S. in Chemical, Food Process, or related; graduating Winter 2026/Spring 2027. Prefers a strong academic record, technical/business acumen, curiosity, inventiveness, communication skills, and leadership.
Manufacturing: Pursuing B.S./M.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Food Process, or related; graduating Winter 2026/Spring 2027. Prefers a strong academic record, interpersonal skills, analytical ability, and process leadership.

I also have a couple of other questions:

  1. One work experience is at a family company with my last name—should I include it, or could it create bias?
  2. How should I format repeated summer jobs?
  3. How much should I tailor my resume for different postings?

Thanks in advance for your advice, I'm very grateful!
