Can a 5th friend join the campaign?

We have a campaign going with 4 players, but one of them has thrown his toys out the pram and isn’t going to play anymore. My friends gf now wants to play, but when they join, they just get assigned out friend who left’s character.

Is there a way for her to join and make her own character to join our campaign?
