My ex wants us to get back together in two years

(I’m 24, my ex is 5 years older than me). I broke up with my ex because he was verbally abusive towards me. His behaviour was erratic at that point. I felt like I had to move on but it was very difficult because I was really in love with him and we shared a lot of things together. We also had a common project and it was really hard for me to loose it. We both went through a pretty severe depressive episode at that time. For 4 years after the break up, he would call me telling me he loved me, wanted us to get back together but I wasn’t sure he had changed. At that point I felt a bit fed up. After that he got married to someone he knew for a year, having a sexless relationship without shared interests. I found that really weird. Then he told me he had been recently diagnosed with bipolar II. I realised it could have worked with proper care and medication because we loved each other deeply. I told him I regretted it and he replied that he wanted us to get back together because I was the love of his life, but in two years. What the hell is that ? I’m confused and hurt.

TL;DR: my ex married somebody else after we broke up, he has recently been diagnosed with bipolar. He told me he wanted us to get back together in two years and I can’t understand this situation at all.
