Nightguard helps with Implant!
Years ago, I was grinding my teeth and dentist make me a nightguard. It’s a transparent plastic piece perfectly aligned to my top teeth. Completely covers them all. I used it a few times and my grinding stopped. Hadn’t used in years. My wife says looks kinda like invisiline braces.
I’ve had a root canal and fabricated tooth for 6+ years. Top front tooth. Without warning, I bit into a bagel and that fabricated tooth with a tiny metal pin fell out.
My wife remembered the dental guard and even knew where it was. My dentist told me put the tooth in place and then put the dental guard on. It was like magic. No one would ever know. Super secure and comfortable.
After implant surgery the periodontist put some filler material in the missing tooth slot that matched my tooth color pretty well. Then hardened it somehow. I put it on and worked great.
Now I have to live with this for couple months while implant heals. I can drink water but not otherwise eat or drink with the guard in. But cosmetically it’s quite good.
I don’t sleep with it. Brush teeth in morning. I eat OMAD (one meal a day) so it pretty much stays in all day until dinner time. I take it out. Eat. Leave it off for the evening. Brush teeth at bedtime. I brush my dental guard and rinse with mouthwash. In the morning it’s slightly minty.
I think this is best of alternatives for dealing with this. Not sure if possible to somehow make one with all but the missing tooth and somehow create tooth slot for the missing one. (I’d at least ask if was are dealing with this use and didn’t have one.)
Thinking a nightguard is a good preventative measure for anyone with a highly visible capped tooth and no implant. I’m thinking I may get a new one once my new tooth is in place (the old one will be useless.)
Hope this helps someone else dealing with this in the future!
