Mercenaries Mastery -enemy resistances

The A3 mercenary mastery says ‑% to Enemy Element(Fire/Cold/Light) Resistance. Does this mean that if the mercenary hits an enemy with any spell it reduces resistances for everyone, myself + my summons included? If so, would that be helpful for my fire golem necro?
