positive iud insertion story

Insertion

This afternoon I got the Skyla Iud placed. Here’s how it went for anyone planning/thinking about getting it and wanting to hear a positive perspective…

They had me take a urine pregnancy test of course, took some vitals/weight, and had me sign a consent form. Then I got undressed and she put numbing cream on my cervix. This didn’t hurt and wasn’t really uncomfortable either. 10 mins later she started. The tool they use to open your vagina (forgot what it’s called) was definitely uncomfortable, not painful, but definitely the most uncomfortable part. Then she used some iodine swaps which slightly hurt and kinda gave me a feel for where i’d be feeling the pain. The measurement part was the most painful, but genuinely when I tell you it lasted 3 seconds, it truly did. That freaked me out hella because I thought “if that’s just them measuring wtf is insertion gonna feel like”. Turns out is was fairly painless. I didn’t feel like teneculum pinch my cervix (which i heard was THE most painful part) and the insertion lasted like 5 seconds with little pain. I think the numbing gel helped EXTREMELY. She said “you’re done” and i was like damn that was fast and a breeze. She took out the god awful opening tool and i felt completely fine, zero cramping whatsoever.

She left and I slowly got onto my elbows while on the table, then sat up straight, then stood up leaning on the table, then finally got dressed and left. I really didn’t want to pass out. I felt nothing wrong down there/stomach. I just felt like breathing was a little tricky and my eyes slowed down/felt weird. But i knew that was just my body giving me anxiety. It’s been 4 hours so far with no cramps, and no bleeding.

I took 400mg of ibuprofen 35 minutes before (i hear you can take 600mg but i have a fear of overdosing), I had numbing cream (1000% do that if you can), I DID NOT take the cervix softener pill as it can cause cramping which i knew i didn’t want. I had my sister in the room with me (definitely reccomend having someone there with you 100%), and I had her drive me home as it’s reccomended not to drive afterwards.

This doesn’t speak for the side affects like future spotting, cramping, potential weight gain, etc. as I just got it today, but so far it’s been completely fine with me. So don’t let the horror stories fool you, obviously they could apply to you but you’ll never know till you try.

also… if anyone can tell me why my stomach was gargling like crazy that would be nice. I also experienced burning down there (i assume from the numbing cream as it feels the same way), i washed it with feminine soap and and hoping the rest will just flush out but it’s gone away now
