AITA for wanting to move away from my moms house after she let her boyfriend touch me inappropriately and mock my health issues
So I (14f) and my mom (46f) have always been very close, but under close inspection, I’m sensing something’s off. My nana passed earlier this year and it’s impacted everyone in different ways. I didn’t see her much on her final days because I was terrified to see her in such a state, she was almost unresponsive and it was scary to see my best friend like that. When she did pass, I didn’t realize it at first, but my mom was lowkey not the best person.
She was very insecure when it came to me and would make that clear when her now ex boyfriend would come over. He was okay with me until I realize he was kind of a creep. It was hot in my room because the ac had broke and it was at least 80-90 degrees in my room. This was a few years ago mind you, so I was even younger than now. I was wearing short shorts and a crop top and I went downstairs to eat something, when I heard my mom’s boyfriend open the door. He had made no announcement he was coming over so I had to run back upstairs to put a big sweater on over my clothes. I went downstairs to greet him and although I had my headphones on, he said “you wearing that in the house?” With a smirk and I thought I misheard him until I heard him say “oh I’m just playing” in which I awkwardly smiled and told my mom about it upstairs. When I told her that she went “oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know he was coming over”. Not that he said that, nor did she ever address it (not that I know of, he never apologized or anything). She always made me layer up and put on a bra when he came over and this started when I was only 9. I never understood that, because I viewed him as a father figure. I didn’t always get along with my real dad since they divorced until recently, and he’s all I had. Every time we were around him, however, she would wear skimpy clothes, light candles, and urge me out of her room. I understood wanting to be with your boyfriend but she never really let me have one on one time, she always brushed it off and said let him spend time with my elder brother, which I was confused at the time and now realizing it was probably out of jealousy, i feel bad.
They recently broke up due to some personal issues and she moved on a week later. Mind you, she didn’t break up with him after the comments, or him rubbing on my thigh when I was maybe 11 or 12, but because she felt like she didnt need him around, she has yet to address any of what I just said. I’d visibly get irritated when he’d come up and she’d ignore me, I hated that.
Now, she’s talking to some guy on the phone constantly and is kicking me out subtly when she is, it’s so weird. She randomly started going out of town for a few days, barely contacting me when she does, and she’s very vague about it.
Another thing she had been doing has been shooting me down when I compliment myself, one time i said “wow I look so pretty” and she said “well don’t get a big head”. I had a friend tell me that it might be because I look like a youthful, skinnier version of her, and that might make her feel jealous, but I’m not sure.
Now for the mental health segment, this started from her popping my pimples with a kit for years after I told her to stop. She said if she didn’t I’d get sick or it would cause problems, and she doesn’t know I know that’s not true. If any of you can let me know issues that happen if you don’t pop pimples from COMMON HORMONAL acne, I’d love to hear it, because I haven’t found a single thing. Because of this, I started washing my face a lot to spite her, and she hated it. It started with my face, then my hands, and then just everywhere. It is the worst on my hands as it’s gotten so bad, the skin color on my hands and arms has been separated in color. Like my hands are red and my arms are my normal shade. She talked to a doctor about this and they said to contact the mental health department, she waited a week and when they didn’t respond, she didn’t try until half a year later. This pimple thing was so bad and painful, it caused a fear of acne and I started going to my room straight away and sobbing from how insufferable it was. I told her to stop and each time she undermines my feelings by saying how “it’s not a good enough reason for if you don’t want to do it, it’s like getting a shot it’s for your own good. You’d let a dermatologist do it” I’m getting teary eyed just thinking about this. But she’d have me hold a flashlight over my face while she did it and her and my brother would laugh and watch, it felt dehumanizing.
She always mocks how particular I am about my routines, what touches my face and hands, and all of that, she just never cares and it’s exhausting being in a house with someone so insecure and narcissistic.
She controls my outfits, how I act, what I do and who it’s with, and yes most moms do this but it’s never this extreme.
I’m a really good kid, like she yells at me for staying up past my bedtime good, that’s all i get in trouble for, and she somewhat takes it for granted. Sure I don’t get punished by getting my phone taken, but the way she talks to me and how I live is way worse. I can’t watch certain tv shows and movies just because she doesn’t like them or reasons like that.
And when it comes to me getting bullied, she never did a single thing about it. If she did, it wasn’t until months later. I used to get yelled at by my dad because my mom would say things and make me explain them when I went to his house or make me tell him things for her. Not my brother though, because he had anxiety and stuff, often times it was me who had to do things, and I was still the youngest. My dad began going to therapy and he changed for the better, we are great now. She hates that my relationship with him is good now, as she likes to throw in my face how he hadn’t been involved in my life instead of being happy he’s here now. They have never been able to put there differences aside until just recently for me, the day they went to a lunch for me together, I nearly cried.
When I got picked on as a kid, she always told me to ignore it, but when I began picking on people back out of jealously when I was younger, she began to care. She loves to lie and say she went to make my bully cry when I was in first grade, when in reality it wasn’t until I told his parents and they told me to deal with it. My mom came down and just told him to stop in which he just asked why I told on him and gave me a dirty look. It wasn’t just her, my teacher bullied me too and was very racist to me. My friends mom had to come down and yell at him to make him stop, and that’s when he cried. My mother apologized at the end of the year and said sorry I said to ignore him, and from then she’s been lying to my face like she doesn’t praise me for having a great memory.
But fast forward to a few days ago, she was yelling at me and my brother for staying up past our bedtime and started saying that we seem to act worse or something, idk I wasn’t really listening, when we are at our dads, and she began saying how he’s never been there and how she’s the one who’s been there, not him, and just saying how he’s never been there for me.
Since then, I’ve been talking to my step mom, dad, friends, and friends parents on what to do. They all said to move but what do you guys think? How should I go about this and approach this, and am I in the wrong here?
By the way, she finally scheduled a therapy appointment in a few days I believe, but I’m not sure if I should tell the therapist all of this in fear my mom would get angry. I have an irrational fear of my mom getting mad at me and even though she’s never done more than yell at us, I don’t want her to get mad at me. It seems inevitable but still. Anyways let me know, thanks.
