FF14 has become dogwater. Haven't played since BFA. Anything I should know?

Obviously I didn't quit during the absolute darkest period, but I did leave midway through BFA and was very happy to be rid of WoW for awhile, gleeful that I missed the clown fiesta that was Shadowlands. My understanding is that the game has almost become unrecognizable in the seven years I've been away, between professions, warbands and a host of QOL changes.

I'm resubbing after work tonight to dust off my old account at long last since FF14 seems to be on the same track that WoW was when I quit. I've seen this show before, so I'm jumping ship again.

What should I expect and be aware of when I log back in? I've been told to go play the Dragonflight content first, but I'm not really picky about where I go back to so much as what I'm coming back to.
