Tel is not what Tottenham needed.
Before yall start hating that I'm criticizing a 20-year-old who's more successful than me or whatever, hear me out.
Today was a hard fought loss, but it has once again solidified that Tel isn't what Tottenham needed this transfer window. Some may disagree but that foul outside the box really threw off our defensive tempo, leading to us conceding minutes later. The pen I won't blame because that's on Frank for putting a 20 year old in a game that is obviously meaningful to the players and the club although some of yall call it a glorified friendly.
What Tottenham needed this window was a proven winger to replace Sonny and Tel isnt that. He’s obviously not a proven Premier League player, and not even a proven Bundesliga player and thats fine he is 20 and not everyone is Yamal. But Levy should have recognized that he’s not suitable for what the club needs at this moment, especially for the amount of money we paid for him. I’m sure Son must have notified the club about his intentions to leave, and that should have signaled either passing on Tel or bringing him in only on a loan-to-buy deal.
Even then I dont think that we need him. Odbert is a better dribbler and finisher in my opinion, Moore is arguably more technical and a better dribbler, and Yang in the few minutes we've seen has show a better work rate and probably even better defensive effort. Mind you, all these players are wingers as well.
I think Tel needs a loan to develop into the player people believe he’s going to be. Right now, he’s not ready for the Premier League or the Champions League, and that’s not what Tottenham need. We urgently need a proven replacement for Son who can step straight into the squad. That £35 million we spent could have been far better used, especially with Levy being so stingy with our money.
Be honest, let disregard the fact of todays game and the hype we've put around him as a young star and understand that Tottenham doesn't need him right now and the money we spent on him is kinda biting us in the ass.
