Solution for live price tracking in Google Sheets

Discussion

I was getting frustrated with the collection tracking apps I'd tried, so I opted to build something in Google Sheets. It took a few days but I now have all my 266 games in there, pulling live auction data from Price Charting and converting into my local currency. I don't know if anyone else has done this or is interested (it's definitely not as pretty or as easy as an app but it does exactly what I want), but I thought I'd share my formulas just in case.

Here is the formula to show the live pricecharting price for River Raid on Atari 2600:

=INDEX(IMPORTXML("https://www.pricecharting.com/game/atari-2600/river-raid","//*[@class='price js-price']"),2)

Replace the URL inside the quotation marks with any other Price Charting game page to show the price for that game.

The value 2 at the end indicates this will pull the price for the complete game. For loose games, change it to a 1. For sealed games, change it to a 3.

This method will always return the price in USD. If you're not in America you can have a separate cell convert the price. Since I'm in Australia the formula is:

=F6 * GOOGLEFINANCE("CURRENCY:USDAUD")

Where F6 is the cell that has the live Price Charting value.

It is a slow process to get all your games in there, since you have to search for each one on the website then copy and paste the URL and fill in whatever other data you want. And if Price Charting goes down or changes its website layout the whole thing will be toast :D. Shout out to the GameEye app which I was using previously, it has an export function that gave me a text list of all my games to get me started.

I have a cell for each game with a link to Price Charting in case I'm curious about recent changes in price, since Sheets can't track changes to cells over time. I'm thinking there is possibly a way to grab that number from the web as well, but I haven't found it yet.

You can also have cells to show your total number of games and total current price, using =COUNTA and =SUM.
