Van life is more than a way to live. It is freedom. It is choosing the open road instead of being trapped by rent and mortgages. It is living outside the system just enough to breathe your own air. And that is exactly why we are in danger.
Authoritarianism thrives by controlling people. When you live in a van, you are harder to track, harder to tax, and harder to pressure into conformity. That makes you a threat to those who want complete control. We are already seeing the early signs of this crackdown.
It is not just about local ordinances or parking bans. It is about a political climate where the highest leader tells police they should be able to do whatever they want. Since those words were spoken, law enforcement has grown bolder. They have moved from harassment to open violence.
We must face the truth. The resistance to fascism inside our police departments and even our military has been next to none. They are being turned into soldiers of the regime quickly. Our resistance is far too slow. We cannot wait until it is too late.
That means building alliances now. We need to reach out to people in the military and law enforcement who still believe in the Constitution and convince them that their duty is to the people, not to a leader who wants unchecked power. If they are turned against us, it will be much harder to fight back.
We also have to protect ourselves mentally and physically. It is hard to stand up for freedom when you are sick, exhausted, and alone. Find people who lift you up. Strengthen your body. Protect your digital footprint. Use burner phones. Stay organized. And never give them an easy way to silence you.
We are not just van lifers. We are people who know what it means to live free. If we do not defend that freedom now, it will be taken from us.
This is not an abstract warning. Watch this video of Washington DC police beating a man simply for recording them during the lockdowns. This is something they would almost certainly never have done before Trump’s orders and the culture those orders created. It shows exactly how quickly things can change, and how urgent it is to resist before it gets worse.
