I have a few theories on what year this world could take place

2009: the original game was released in 2009 so therefore I don’t see why it wouldn’t take place in 2009. However is 2009 really that “Modern” anymore? I mean Come on! That was literally 16 years ago! Things have definitely changed. So I don’t think it would be fair to call it “Modern Day”

2013: the 2nd game was released in 2013. And the tutorial is literally set in this map. But then again, is 2013 really “Modern” compared to today. It’s definitely more modern than 2009 but 2013 was 12 years ago!

2016: the actual Modern Day level in the game was released in early 2016. So the world very well could likely take place in 2016. I do consider 2016 to be relatively modern but also not super modern.

2025: when you here the term “Modern Day” you probably think of this exact day or more recent years. The only claim I have that proves this theory not true is the fact that the suburb, the house, and the things surrounding them look relatively outdated. But I guess we still do see old things still standing and being used to this day, so I could be wrong.

In my opinion. I think modern day takes place sometime in the 2010s because that was PvZs golden age. But that’s just my honest opinion.
Let me know what y’all think in the comments.
