Rant: Why Most DIY Home Decor Blogs Miss the Mark on Practicality
I saw a rant earlier about how many DIY home decor blogs are impractical, and it really resonated with me. So frequently enough, you see these gorgeous transformations that look amazing in photos, but they’re totally unrealistic for actual living. Like, a white linen couch with a toddler? Or intricate macrame plant hangers in a house full of cats?
It's not just about kids and pets, though. Budget also plays a huge role. A lot of these “easy” DIYs require specialized tools or expensive materials, which kind of defeats the purpose of saving money through DIY in the first place. I've seen "budget-friendly" room makeovers that still cost more than my rent.
I think a big part of the problem is the focus on aesthetics over functionality. Is the goal to create a beautiful space that photographs well, or a beautiful and functional space that you actually enjoy living in? What are your thoughts? Anyone else find themselves constantly scaling back DIY projects for practical reasons?
