[PA] GM sent title with NO LIEN, closed & marked paid on credit, but we never paid it off
Hi,
Bit of a weird story here. We bought a VW Tiguan in 2021, car was hit by a post office truck in 2022 (insurance company sued for repairs), during that time there was a payment made for the full payoff quote (we’ve never been able to verify) but it was never processed or went through which GM says rescinded. 4 weeks later, we received the title with no lien (We verified it was accurate through PA records). They sent us 4-5 FedEx envelopes with a return label to send it back, which we never did.
We’ve been paying on our car via the app & phone, we still have a normal balance that we’ve paid monthly. The loan is marked as closed on our credit and that it was paid in full. Anytime we call GM the loan is still in standing.
I’ve searched the internet for stories but can’t find any.
I have a few questions:
Are they able to repo a car even though we have the title with no lien?
We can’t refinance our car to get a lower rate (we’ve been quoted at over $200 lower), they have harassed us about signing a document to have it go on our credit which we didn’t respond to. What if we just ignore the requests? (We have not received a letter from them or anything in about 2 years requesting title or us to sign)
Are we legally able to trade or sell the car for cash? We’ve gone to a dealer and refinance place, and they can’t find any loan, so if we process an application they have to mark it as closed (atleast what one rep said).
