First ultrasound experience

Hi! Just had my first ultrasound today and it was different than what I was expecting - has anyone had a similar experience? I’m 8w3d and all the dr did was a quick pic showing the baby is in there and he said he could see pulsing on the ultrasound screen. They scheduled me for next week when I’m 9w5d to get scanned by the ultrasound tech who will take the measurements. I asked if he could hear a heartbeat and he said no not when it’s that early.

Other posts I’ve read it seems like people get measurements with their ultrasounds. I should get that next week, just thought it was different that the dr did this one himself but it was more of a quick check that there was a baby and it was in the right place
