Worried I chose the wrong field

Seeking Advice

I’m currently in the process of applying to nursing school programs. I guess I didn’t do enough research because in the state of FL nurses make less than I do serving at my current job. I average $400-$600 before taxes for a 12.5 hour shift. While I am SO passionate about nursing, I do still have two kids at home I need to take care of.

My justification is that: -I am only part time at my current job so I’m not guaranteed hours, no insurance, no paid time off -I’m assuming I’ll have more stability in an actual career field -I can work OT, nights, weekends, or holidays to get an extra differential pay which may end up evening me out to what I’m currently making

If I did 3-12 at my current job (which is my schedule currently because I like having 4 days off with my family) I can average about $1200-$1800 a WEEK before taxes but I’ve seen that that is a 2 week paycheck for nurses. But serving is literally brainless work and it bores me. I’ve been doing it for 8 years and I am ready for a REAL career. I’d eventually go back to get my NP. I could keep one 12 hour shift at my current job and then do 3/12s nursing but then I lose a day with my babies and I’d rather have JUST enough money while they’re still babies and get to spend the time with them.

I know some people are gonna say “get through school first before overthinking” but why put the next two years of my life on hold if it’s gonna end up being a huge pay cut with way more responsibility. I’ve wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl. I didn’t realize they get shit on so bad in FL. Is anyone anywhere currently doing anything about it? I’m not opposed to leaving the state afterwards if it’s somewhere with an GOOD COL to pay ratio and good schools for my kids.
