Choosing a saint
Getting received into the church next year and I want to pick a saint, but i’m struggling between a few options:
Catherine of Siena - Dominican tertiary and doctor of the church known for her work with the poor, sick and the papacy. I feel drawn to her because of her lifelong commitment to serving God, her association with the Dominican order (an order I too feel drawn heavily towards) and her emphasis on the importance of God’s will.
Thomas Aquinas - Dominican friar and theologian, doctor of the church and considered one of the most influential Catholic figures. I feel drawn to him for his commitment to the Dominican order (as previously discussed) his association with education and teaching. Also, i’m a bit of a theology nerd.
Josemaría Escrivá - Spanish priest and founder of Opus Dei. I am drawn to his commitment to sanctifying one’s life through everyday actions, the need for self discipline and the desire to find God in ordinary life.
Our Lady of Sorrows - Title referring to the sorrows experienced by Mary because of Christ’s suffering and death. I was born on a Friday in September (the day of sorrowful mysteries during the month of Our Lady of Sorrows) and have always felt greatly connected to the suffering and death of Christ, even prior to conversion.
