Salary ?

I've been with the same employer for over 20 years, so I'm not very familiar with salary negotiations. I was recently offered a position at $80K, but since the listing stated "up to $85K," I asked if they could increase the offer. The recruiter said he'd check with the hiring manager, but I haven't heard back yet. Should I accept the original offer, or did I hurt my chances?
