I was in a hit and run on the highway, got the license plate.

Location: SoCal, this happened near Pico Rivera.

We were rear-ended and side swiped, and the driver took off. I didn’t get a good look at the driver but we have a picture of the vehicle and their plates. The issue is I only have liability insurance and uninsured motorist coverage with Progressive. I had a passenger in the car and luckily we only had minor injuries.

So far I haven’t received any info on the other driver and I’m basically waiting to find out if they have insurance to cover repair costs. I called an injury lawyer who didn’t take my case because they didn’t think we would get a payout. This was confusing and I was hopeful that there would be some retribution. Has anyone dealt with something similar? I’m not sure what my legal options are and don’t have experience dealing with insurance. Could a lawyer help me collect uninsured motorist coverage from my own insurance if it turns out the other driver is uninsured? Thanks in advance.
