Flunked EI intake today :(
We were referred to early intervention based on being a premie at birth (35+1). My son had his evaluation yesterday, and they go off of actual age so he got the 8 week checklist even though he's only 2 weeks adjusted.
While I KNEW he was going to fail based on that alone, it still gave me SO much anxiety to say no to all of the questions. I think in my heart I thought maybe since he was only 5 weeks early, he would magically act his actual age. This was confirmation that we really are behind and I'm trying so hard to remember this is very normal and not an indication of any long term issues. I’ve been doing a lot of tummy time and really trying on my own to prevent some issues but I guess there’s a balance of being realistic and patient vs helping him with what we can. Probably no amount of tummy time and cooing at him at this age will magically make him act like a two month old.
I was looking at pictures of my daughter at 8 weeks old and I forgot how lively and engaged she was at this age - it’s now so obvious how newborn-like my little guy is and my anxiety about long term issues has set in. Just needed to get that out with people who get it. I had so much milestone anxiety (for no reason) with my daughter and I swore I wouldn’t do it with my second kid. Then I was gifted pre-e with this pregnancy and an early delivery 🫠
