I had to pull my first leafy gall adult and I'm a bit nervous.

I was pruning all the bottom growth off my beds and clearing out the decaying stuff. I got to one that had been making BEAUTIFUL pink and yellow flowers. I pulled the leaves from the bottom, stuck my head under to get a look at what dead leaves needed to go, and there it was. Probably a baseball sized leafy green growth like a mini fairy garden. I had NOT seen this growth the last time I pruned. Admittedly it's been about a month.

I yanked the tuber out and then shoveled all the dirt surrounding it. The tuber went to the garbage. The dirt went to the giant burn pile and the greenery did the same. (It's 300 ft from my garden on the back of the property.)

I try to always sanitize my snips but sometimes you just forget. I'm sure I did at one point. I have no idea if I've inadvertently given all my plants gall. Hope not!

When I pull my tubers this fall, can I blowtorch the entire bed? We have one and a huge propane tank and I'll set fire to as much as I can and keep turning the soil til it's quite literally scorched earth.

Is that sufficient? I don't plan to plant in that spot again but also like flame throwers. None of the surrounding tubers seem to have gall. And this was the only tuber of this variety I've had this year.

Such a bummer. I know life goes on but dang, it was a gorgeous plant.
